Adnan’s story reflects the resilience of many children overcoming learning challenges. Diagnosed with dyslexia at an early age, Adnan’s mother recalls the first signs she noticed: even in K2, he struggled to spell his own name, and letters were a mystery. It wasn’t until he reached Primary 1, that his family discovered DAS and arranged for an assessment. That day, they learned the word “dyslexia” for the first time.
Since joining DAS, Adnan has made tremendous strides. At first, he struggled with simple letters—confused by similar sounds like “c” and “k”. Through DAS’s Main Literacy Programme (MLP) and additional support through the Math and Speech & Language Therapy Programmes, he now reads confidently and understands word-blending rules. From achieving a single-digit score in Math, Adnan recently earned the
Best Improvement Award in 2023!
Despite his learning differences, Adnan shines on the soccer field as team captain, dreaming
of a future as a football player or coach.
“Adnan has come a long way and I am proud of his progress thus far. He is a diligent student who consistently puts in the effort to understand the concepts taught in class. His proactive learning attitude has inspired his classmates as well. Overall, it has been a pleasure to be part of his learning journey”

Adnan’s journey wouldn’t be possible without the DAS bursary fund. His family transitioned
to a single income, and without this financial support, continuing with the vital programmes at
DAS would be impossible. “I really hope that you all can support DAS,” says Adnan’s
mother. “Not everyone can afford this type of help, and without the bursary, I don’t think I
could continue paying for his programmes.”
