Siti is a bright and determined student who navigates the challenges of dyslexia with
resilience and courage. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of education
and support.
Siti’s Journey: A Mother’s Perspective
Mdm Noriza, Siti’s mother, shares their inspiring journey:
“When Siti was in Primary 4, she struggled significantly with reading. Simple words like ‘road’ were read as ‘read.’ After an assessment, she was diagnosed with dyslexia. We enrolled her in the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) in Primary 5. Now in Secondary 2, she benefits from the Main Literacy Programme, Math Programme, and Speech & Drama Programme. The difference has been incredible. Before her Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), I feared she would fail her subjects, but she managed to pass all of them, showing remarkable improvements in her academic performance.”
For families like Mdm Noriza’s, the cost of essential intervention programmes can be a significant burden.
She explains:
“The bursary assistance has been a lifesaver. As a mother of four children, supporting all their studies is challenging. When I was unemployed and Siti’s step-father was working overseas in Malaysia, I was very worried about affording DAS classes. Now, working as a cleaner, the financial burden has been eased thanks to the DAS bursary.”
