As Educational Therapists, we strive to empower young minds. In our quest to do so, we continuously seek and explore avenues to enhance classroom instruction. Recently, 21 Educational Therapists from the Prep2PSLE and ELL Curriculum team had the privilege of attending Dr Nadya Patel’s two-part Critical Thinking workshop. Driven by her deep passion for Critical Thinking theories, Dr Nadya generously imparts her knowledge and expertise to various schools and organisations.

The first session unfolded at Serangoon Learning Centre, acting as the initial platform where we were introduced to Paul and Elder’s Critical Thinking Framework. This framework facilitates the identification and evaluation of distinct components of thinking, with the overarching goal of enhancing our reasoning abilities.
With the understanding of this framework, the second session adopted a more hands-on approach, focusing on the practical application of the framework within the classroom.

The ample space at the Rex House lecture room facilitated us in using various techniques for text analysis such as sketching, building with Lego bricks and Magnatiles and bodystorming. All of us thoroughly enjoyed exploring various texts while gaining valuable knowledge and practical applications that can enhance our classroom teaching. Through this workshop, we are now better equipped to inspire and elevate our students on their journey to be critical thinkers.
