Steven has been with the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) since 2015 and currently serves as a Lead Educational Therapist. With these strengths, Steven is a valued member of the Educational Advisory Team, where he provides guidance and support to Educational Therapists (EdTs) in lesson planning and classroom implementation. He also equips EdTs with effective strategies, skills, and tools to better support students in the DAS classroom. In addition, Steven mentors newly appointed EdTs during their first six months at DAS, offering structured guidance, professional knowledge, and practical strategies for supporting students with special educational needs. As a previous a member of the DAS Outreach Team (delivering talks to teachers and parents to raise awareness of dyslexia), he continues to contribute in this capacity by providing awareness talks when required.
Steven completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs (SEN) from the University of South Wales in 2017. Driven by a strong interest in and commitment to this specialised field, he pursued further academic advancement and successfully completed his Master’s degree in Special Educational Needs in 2020, despite the challenging circumstances of that year. His dissertation, titled “Student Voice on Teachers’ Attributes That Resulted in Positive Learning Outcomes for Students with SEN in Mainstream Schools in Singapore,” was subsequently presented at the International Dyslexia Association’s Annual Conference in 2022 in San Antonio, Texas.
