CEO Thoughts: Empowering employees to be creative

THE way a leadership sets its organisational goals plays a pivotal role in creating a vibrant innovative culture. At the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), our five-year plan singled out “creating and delivering a comprehensive and holistic range of programmes and services for people and children with dyslexia and associated learning differences” as one of the key goals. This has encouraged staff to adopt a pioneering attitude and empowered them to explore and recommend new ideas for our programmes and services. Our other key goal, to “ensure the quality of DAS programmes and services through programme evaluation and the publication of research”, has also motivated staff to constantly review existing programmes and services. Business leaders can bring innovation to the workplace by recognising and rewarding ideas.
