Charity Transparency Awards

Charity Transparency and Governance Awards

The Charity Transparency and Governance Awards (CTA & CGA) are prestigious accolades presented by the Charity Council to recognise charities that uphold the highest standards of transparency and governance. These awards aim to acknowledge outstanding governance practices while inspiring other charities to adopt best practices in their operations.

What are the Charity Transparency and Governance Awards?

The Charity Transparency Award (CTA) recognises charities that demonstrate exemplary disclosure practices in alignment with the Charity Transparency Framework (CTF). The CTF includes nine key dimensions of transparency and is closely aligned with the Code of Governance for Charities and Institutions of a Public Character (IPCs).

The Charity Governance Award (CGA) was launched in 2012 to honour charities that have achieved the highest standards of governance. Since 2016, only CTA winners are eligible for the CGA, reinforcing the integral role of transparency in good governance. CGA winners are selected through a rigorous assessment process facilitated by Ernst & Young (EY) and evaluated by an independent judging panel.

DAS’s Outstanding Achievement

The Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), DAS International, and DAS Academy have consistently demonstrated excellence in governance, achieving an outstanding triple hat-trick by winning the CTA for the last three consecutive years. This remarkable achievement highlights DAS’s commitment to upholding strong governance, transparency, and accountability in serving the community.

Ernst & Young’s Feedback on DAS’s Governance

As part of the 2024 CGA assessment process, Ernst & Young provided the following key strengths in DAS’s governance framework:

  1. Clear Nomination Committee Terms of Reference – DAS has a structured nomination process, ensuring clear roles in board composition and member selection.
  2. Diverse Board Member Experience – Board members bring expertise from multiple industries, including HR, Finance, Consulting, Law, and Education, enhancing decision-making.
  3. Comprehensive Pre-Appointment Competency Assessments – Candidates for board positions are assessed on their contributions to other boards, alignment with DAS’s mission, and key personal attributes.
  4. Well-Defined Vision, Purpose, and Strategy – DAS’s vision and strategic direction are clearly articulated in its Constitution, providing a strong foundation for organisational direction.
  5. Robust Risk Management Process – – DAS has a clear process to identify and document key risks.
  6. Aligned KPIs for FY24-25 – Quantitative and qualitative Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are aligned to DAS’s vision and mission, ensuring progress towards strategic goals.
  7. Defined Term Limits and Re-Nomination Processes – DAS promotes accountability through well-structured term limits and reappointment procedures for board members.
