Sofia Embraced Her Dyslexia Through Music and Singing

Sofia Nurkeisha is stepping back into the spotlight this June! She is no newcomer to the stage. As one of two student singers in Gift of Wonders, this marks her second time performing at the showcase.

When Challenges Become Discovery

Sofia has had her fair share of challenges with dyslexia, particularly with spelling. Despite this, she has discovered a powerful source of support through music. It has enhanced her reading and language skills, and more importantly, helped her grow in self-confidence.

Singing became more than just a hobby, it became a space where she felt most like herself. Her journey with dyslexia led her to uncover a passion for singing, which has become an integral part of her identity and self-expression.

Anticipation for the Big Day

As the performance day draws near, Sofia is filled with excitement. For her, the talent show is more than just a performance opportunity, it is also a celebration of individuality and growth. Sofia aims to leave her audience with a lasting impression. She hopes that through her performance, others will feel the heart and joy she pours into her singing.

Outside of the spotlight, Sofia is equally passionate about her future. She aspires to become a professional theatre artist, pursuing her love for singing, dancing, and acting. Musicals such as “Annie”, particularly the song “Tomorrow”, have inspired her to dream big and persevere.

In her free time, Sofia also enjoys beading, and creating small handcrafted pieces that are like treasures to her.

Her journey is a poignant reminder that personal challenges can open doors to unexpected strengths. Through music, Sofia has not only discovered her voice but also learned to embrace her unique path, and now, she invites us to listen, feel, and celebrate it with her.

Sofia is a 13-year-old student under the Main Literacy Programme, and currently on Bursary.
