After noticing signs of dyslexia in her daughter, Nur Evren Elveera, Ms Elmy Sulaiha Nasre discovered that Evren’s learning difficulties stemmed from other challenges, despite similarities to her elder brother’s dyslexia. Evren, who had unclear speech and letter reversals from a young age, received support from the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), which recently expanded its services to include students without formal diagnoses. DAS highlights the need to support students with learning challenges regardless of diagnosis, noting that early intervention is crucial but sometimes complicated by children’s ability to mask difficulties through coping strategies.
