Introducing Our Art Competition Judges
Say hello to our panel of judges for the DAS Art Competition 2025,
each with a wealth of experience and a shared passion for the arts.
Kavita Issar BatraÂ
Singapore-based artist Kavita Issar Batra draws inspiration from the unnoticed often discarded fragments of nature and urban life encountered during her daily walks. Born in the Himalayas and trained in the UK and Singapore, her practice blends photography, printmaking, painting, and assemblage.Â
Using her iPhone, she captures spontaneous moments, fallen leaves, wire, petals, bark, preserving their raw, unaltered beauty. These become the foundation for process-led works exploring transience, decay, and renewal. Her intuitive use of layering, erosion, and natural elements reflects the rhythms of time and nature.Â
Kavita invites viewers to pause, observe, and find meaning in the overlooked. Her work celebrates the quiet poetry of everyday surroundings and the beauty of impermanence.
S Sunitha Pillay
With over 11 years of teaching experience in both primary and secondary schools, Ms. Sunitha Pillay is a passionate art educator who nurtures creativity and expression in young learners. Beyond the classroom, she has contributed to the arts community as a guest lecturer and mentor at LASALLE College of the Arts, guiding aspiring designers and artists.
Her artistic journey has gained both local and international recognition. Her designs were showcased at Singapore Fashion Week and Asia Fashion Future in 2015, and she was featured in Tamil Murasu the same year. She represented Singapore at the ASEAN Startup Accelerator in 2017, both as a participant and later as a judge, and was highlighted among the Top 10 in Asia Designers International Magazine in 2017 and 2018.
