Passion Will Find Its Way – Hasikka Shanker

Hasikka’s first art event at ‘Beautifully Different!’ DAS-UOB Art Jamming at The Singapore River on 1 June 2023 with Instructor Ms Ho Seok Kee – Winner of 2018 UOB Painting of the Year Silver Award!

Hasikka’s story is about how an opportunity can transform a child’s life. That is what DAS ARTVenture has done for her.

Her love for art started very early when she was just a toddler scribbling on walls and trying to draw her favourite cartoon characters. But with her parents already struggling to support her studies, they could not afford to support her hobby as well.

I noticed her exceptional talent and was surprised to learn she had never attended any art classes before. It felt like such a waste of potential. I knew someone needed to give this gifted student the chance to see how good she really was. From then on, I made sure Hasikka was included in the free art workshops supported by UOB. These sessions were wonderful opportunities for her to develop her skills with guidance from highly qualified instructors.

Initially a quiet and timid girl, Hasikka has now found her confidence by knowing her strengths and being recognised for them. Today, she is a confident and outgoing 16-year-old who excels in art at her school, and is preparing to do human art posture and details for her N Level Art Examination this year.

My proudest moment?
