THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: How may employers best support their staff’s mental well-being, especially in a crisis?

Lee Siang, Chief Executive Officer

Employers can leverage on both internal and external resources to promote staff’s mental well-being. Before the crisis, the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) already has in place an inter-disciplinary well-being initiative called CalmEd. Developed by Educational Therapists for Educational Therapists, CalmEd has supported staff in coping with the switch to online teaching and working from home. We have also made external counselling support available for colleagues who need them. It is also important to keep staff closely updated about developments; give them platforms to voice their concerns and frustrations; and use their feedback to guide decision-making. Since the start of the circuit breaker, DAS has organised town halls with each of our 14 learning centres and maintained active and open dialogues with all our staff.
