In a truly heartwarming celebration of resilience, creativity, and determination, 23 Speech and Drama Arts (SDA) students took centre stage at the SingPost Auditorium on 29 December 2023, dazzling the audience at the DAS Student Talent Showcase: Gift of Wonders. This special event, designed to celebrate the unique abilities of students with dyslexia and raise funds for bursaries supporting children from low-income families in DAS programmes, was a joyful and unforgettable success.
Amidst cheers and applause, these remarkable students showcased their artistic talents through captivating performances. With the support of other DAS students and alumni who lent their voices and dance moves, the SDA performers presented two plays, “The School of Hard Knocks” and “Gizmo’s Christmas”. Behind the scenes, the students dedicated over 40 hours of preparation across Term 3 and Term 4, and their hard work shone brilliantly on stage.

For many of the children, this was their very first time performing in front of such a large and enthusiastic audience. The experience became more than just a performance, it was a triumph over personal challenges, stage fright, and self-doubt. The joy and pride on their faces reflected a deep sense of achievement and growth.
Gift of Wonders beautifully highlighted the creativity, perseverance, and spirit of DAS students, showing the world that learning differences are no barrier to success. The evening left families, friends, and supporters deeply moved, offering a powerful reminder that with the right opportunities and encouragement, every child can thrive and shine.
We captured moments of their thoughts in this journey:

The SDA team believes in the transformative power of speech and drama to help students discover their talents and build self-confidence. Through engaging in drama, students not only develop their creativity and communication skills but also nurture a stronger, more positive sense of self.
Class showcases and performances at external venues play a vital role in this journey. These experiences provide SDA students with invaluable opportunities to grow, express themselves, and shine in front of supportive audiences. Each performance becomes a meaningful step in building resilience, courage, and a lifelong love for learning.
